Mandy is an artist/printmaker based in Surrey, ex-Johannesburg, South Africa.
Her art practice comprises prints and drawings in various media. She
prefers to make narrative series through exploiting the characteristic of the multiple
offered by printmaking. For many years, her work has dealt with different
aspects of human relationships, often inspired by poetry. Mandy’s recent work also
comments on the divisive nature of contemporary life, from the politics of our
time through to humankind’s relationship with Gaia, the planet where we exist
but often abuse.
Mandy has been involved in
the South African art world for 30 years in different capacities, ranging from
teaching privately and lecturing in the Visual Arts Department at Unisa to
marketing South African prints. She has strong professional
bonds with most of South Africa’s professional printmaking studios. Between
2013 and 2018 she founded and ran outoftheCUBE, an online platform to promote
the work of mid-career South African artists, one of the first of its kind in
South Africa. Between 2019 and 2021 she assisted in the organisation of the
South African collective The Printing Girls.
She has been a practicing professional artist since
1999.
