The press.on start-up story

Johann Booyens and Mandy Conidaris are both expat South African artist/printmakers now living in the UK – Johann (from the Western Cape) has been in Glasgow, Scotland since 2020, and Mandy (ex-Johannesburg) relocated to Addlestone in Surrey, England in 2022.

In South Africa we had heard of each other via mutual artist friends and printmaking shows. So, when Mandy visited Edinburgh in November 2022 we met up to exchange ideas, initially around how to build a presence of South African artist/printmakers in the UK. (This vision has since been expanded to creating further exposure for our members in the South African market.)

After a 5-hour conversation in a little coffee shop on The Royal Mile, we decided to start up an initiative we call press.on Print Club. Our aim is to promote the work of a small stable of professional South African artist/printmakers who live in both the UK and SA.
